Plagiarism/Using others' code exactly?

Hi I have a question related to the use of the community code - if one of the top solutions uses the exact code from my feature engineering notebook that I shared, does that play a role in my likelihood of getting a community code prize/how do the logistics of that work?

Hi can someone please clarify how this works?
@hannahmoro

Community code posts are a way for participants to share code for others to use or take inspiration from. At the end of the challenge, judges will select up to four posts for the “Community Code Bonus Prize.” More information about the evaluation criteria for those prizes is here on the home page. Use of code by others is part of what the judges will consider. There is no guarantee that any particular post will be selected by the judges for a bonus prize.

Sorry I might not have been clear. I thought the community code was for inspiration. What I’m asking is if my entire feature engineering function was copied and used by winning solutions, is that allowed? Also, I was hoping to find out when the community code prizes are chosen because I don’t see that anywhere in the instructions.

Happy to clarify and address your questions about community code!

Code usage and licensing - Community code posts are licensed with an MIT open source license, as shown on the right side of each post and explained on the community code post submission page (see screenshot). The MIT license explicitly grants permission for others to copy and use code. You can edit or delete your posts if you’re not comfortable with someone using your code in the future, but it’s important to note that permission has already been granted for existing copies and uses.

Community code bonus prize selection process - The factors that judges will consider are described here, and they include use of shared code by others. So, if competition winners build upon or directly use community code, judges will absolutely take that into consideration.

Bonus prize timeline - Judging for all prizes, including community code bonuses, will take place following the January 22nd 2025 Report Arena deadline. Final verified winners will be publicly announced in April 2025 or earlier.
