How SWE is measured on grid cells?

I would like to know what is the procedure to measure SWE on the grid cells.

On ground stations there is a fixed single location where the measurements are taken.

However on grid cells there could be many ways to take measurements, for example:

  • Just one measurement in the middle
  • Divide the grid cell into a subgrid, take measurements in all the subgrid points and average. In this case the number of divisions could be relevant for modeling.
  • It is random and non controlled

I believe this information could guide model development.

@ironbar SWE measurements represent the average of any ground-based snow telemetry and/or airborne measurements available for a grid cell. Additional details on how labels are derived are not available.
