Can any one clarify if train labels are provided in the dataset?

Through below statement, whale ID does not seem to signify labels…

**"The short answer is that an individual beluga may have more than one whale ID associated with it. "**

Hi @Prachi,

You can think of the whale IDs as the labels since images with the same whale ID will be treated as a match in scoring.

For the purposes of this competition, a _given image_ will have one whale ID, and only considered a match with other images that have the same whale ID.

In real life, an _individual beluga_ may be photographed at different times in its lifetime, and due to changes in its appearance can be assigned a different ID in different periods. If it helps, feel free to disregard this background information for the purposes of the competition.

I hope this helps.
